Book Club on the Porch

Last night we had our monthly book club. Instead of meeting at our usual spot, we decided to enjoy my sisters porch. The weather was perfect. The heat and humidity had left. We ended up having one of those nights where the rain is on its way and you have a nice breeze with the smell of rain on it. We had a big cheese plate, artichoke and spinach dip, a strawberry and rhubarb tart, a little dark chocolate and a good white and a good red wine.
The book we just finished was called,”The Dog Stars”. Everyone enjoyed the book. So far this year we have read three very different books. The first was,”Mr Penumbra’s 24 hour Bookstore” and the second book was “The Fault in Our Stars”. I have liked all three.
We were missing some of our readers last night, so we have not finalized our next book. We are torn between David Sedaris’s new book and “The Bookman’s Tale” by Charlie Lovett. I plan on reading both. As the evening progressed and the wine and cheese plate diminished, the rain started, but not in a violent way. It began softly and just added to the relaxing evening. Reading is fun and it’s good for your noggin. 🙂

  1. I very much enjoyed listening to the rain and talking to good friends. I vote for the David Sedaris book, in the spirit of “all our book club books have absolutely nothing to do with each other”.
