Screw It

Screw It

Am I the only one who feels slightly bamboozled when a great wine has a screw top? Opening a bottle of wine is part of the experience. I can still remember how difficult it was for me the first time, the second time, heck, probably the 100th time. Occasionally, I will meet a cork that has had a difficult life requiring extra special attention. I’ve had moments of cockiness that left me looking inexperienced and foolish. You know the moment I’m talking about…that moment that you stab your corkscrew into the bottle with only half a look to line it up and half the power needed to properly puncture the cork and you find yourself twisting down cock-eyed and mumbling, “Oh crap” to yourself as you realize the cork is going to break and break in a bad way. But for the most part, its a dance with the bottle. It’s foreplay. Occasionally, I find myself thoroughly enjoying a bottle of wine with a dang screw top, like tonight, and I usually feel cheated. I’ve skipped the foreplay and gone straight in for the…well ya’ know what.
So Bonny Doon Vineyards has successfully impressed me with this wine. It’s 62% cabernet sauvignon, 22% Petit Verdot, 8% Tannat, 7% Syrah and 1% Petit Syrah. It’s a fruity California wine that fits my underdeveloped palate with a screw top juxtaposed by a 90 point glass of wine. I have to admit I’m impressed. Normally, I avoid the screw top when taking a bottle to one of our potlucks. It seems to scream tacky, even though I know it shouldn’t anymore. Yep, I’ve been missing out. Occasionally, you just have to screw it.

Feelin’ It Friday

Friday, I had the girls over for a little crafting and coffee time. It’s important to me that I make time for the special friends in my life. Like most things in life, you need to nourish your relationships.

I've decided to plan more "Feelin' It Friday" days in the future. I'll try and mix it up each time with the girls. It is all about what I'm feelin' like doing at the time. Maybe next time we'll make homemade vanilla. I've wanted to do that for a while now and have not made the time to do it.
I'm never bored in my life, there's just too much to do. So many times, I get caught up with the ordinary stuff; laundry and keeping up your home can keep me pretty busy and then there's my job…that's really most of my time. Cooking alone could keep me busy for a lifetime, but due to the fact my rear-end would be immense if I continued on that path, I try to keep it to just meals with the family. Sometimes, I just want to paint and craft and doing that with friends and a bottle of Prosecco is even better. Hence the beginning of "Feelin' it Friday" has begun.
